Four fatal accidents reported including from Fort & Mirihana

Four persons have been killed in four fatal accidents that have been reported, including from the Fort and Mirihana areas, in the last 24 hours ending at 06 am today.

A 77-year-old man has died after being hit by a motorcycle near the Gold Centre bus stop on Reclamation Road in Fort, Colombo last night.

The Police said the motorcyclist, pillion rider, and the pedestrian injured in the accident had been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. However, the pedestrian, a resident of Modara, had succumbed to injuries. 

Meanwhile, another pedestrian died after being knocked down by a car near the Delkanda Junction in Mirihana yesterday.

The Police said the man had been hit by a car that was travelling from Maharagama to Nugegoda and had died upon admission to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila. 

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, while the driver of the car has been arrested over the accident. 

A 59-year-old resident of Vaikkal has died after a car hit his bicycle in the Thoppuwa area in Wennapuwa last night. 

The Police said the cyclist who was travelling from Dankotuwa to Thoppuwa had been knocked down by the car from behind while attempting to turn into a by-road.

Investigations have been launched to apprehend the driver of the vehicle who had fled the area following the accident. 

An 88-year-old woman has died after the three-wheeler she was travelling in collided with a tractor transporting agricultural equipment in the Kurinchanmunai area in Vavunativu.

The Police said the three-wheeler that was transporting three persons from Kokkadicholai to Vavunativu had collided with the tractor travelling in the opposite direction. 

The four persons in the three-wheeler had been hospitalised with injuries during which the elderly woman had succumbed to injuries. The driver of the tractor has been arrested in connection with the accident. (NewsWire)
