Two suspects who had abducted a woman in a car early this morning have been arrested in the Baddegama area.

The Police said the woman had been abducted while she was on her way to work at an apparel factory in Dickwella.

The suspects had abducted the woman and had travelled along the Southern Expressway and had been noted by the Police officers on duty while paying the toll fee at the Baddegama exit.

The officers had noticed one suspect seated in the backseat holding the woman with her face covered. They had thereafter informed the Baddegama Police station after which a group of officers who had been dispatched to locate the vehicle had found it near Baddegama Town.

Upon being stopped, the suspect in the back seat immediately locked the doors of the vehicle and was seen threatening the woman with a sharp object. In order to contain the situation, an officer fired into the air during which the other officers had broken the backseat windows of the car and unlocked the vehicle.

The officers had removed the woman and the suspect from the vehicle who were both found with cut injuries. They have been admitted to the Baddegama Hospital.

The Police said the driver of the car has been arrested and the vehicle has been taken into Police custody. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as a 23-year-old, while both suspects are residents of Walasmulla.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the abduction had taken place over an extramarital affair. The Baddegama Police is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
