The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has suspended the party membership of the Rajanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha member who was involved in a recent bank robbery in Thambuttegama.

Two suspects had attempted to rob Rs. 22.3 million that had been brought to be deposited in a private bank in Thambuttegama but their robbery was foiled by a Police Sergeant who had later apprehended them.

Investigations had led to the arrest of an SLPP member of the Rajanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha for aiding the robbery by providing a motorcycle to the suspects.

SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said the SLPP has decided to suspend the SLPP member’s party membership based on his involvement in the bank robbery. (NewsWire)
