The Court of Appeal has issued summons to State Minister Sanath Nishantha to appear in court over a contempt of court case.

The court has ordered the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP to appear before the court on 13th October 2022.

In August, MP Sanath Nishantha was accused of contempt of court by several parties.

Addressing the media, MP Sanath Nishantha said the officers from the Attorney General’s Department and some judges are responsible for letting loose criminals who engaged in the violence in Sri Lanka in May.

“Some judges should take responsibility for this, they give bail for these criminals in one day,” he said.

A petition was later filed at the Court of Appeal by a lawyer accusing SLPP MP Sanath Nishantha of contempt of court.

Thereafter, the Fort magistrate’s Court instructed the Criminal Investigations Department to conduct an investigation pertaining to alleged contempt of court statements made by the MP. (NewsWire)
