Two arrested over Korea & Japan job scam

Two suspects who had financially defrauded the public under the guise of providing jobs in South Korea and Japan have been arrested by officials of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE).

The suspects had gathered youths at a prominent location in Kurunegala and had collected money promising jobs in South Korea and Japan.

They were arrested following an investigation launched on the directive of Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara after complaints had been received in this regard.

Officials from the SLBFE had raided the location in Kurunegala and apprehended the two suspects.

They had also seized Rs. 77,000 from their possession, collected as a registration fee of Rs. 1500 per person from the public, an eye checkup chart, and a banner displaying free jobs in South Korea and Japan.

The two suspects have been released on sureties of Rs. 200,000 each after being produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court.
