A former Sri Lanka Army personnel has been arrested for a double murder 32 years after the incident.

The former Army personnel now on pension is accused of murdering a 47-year-old man and 21-year-old son over a land dispute linked to an extramarital affair in 1991.

Investigations have revealed that the 47-year-old victim’s wife had left him and their two sons and had remarried.

The man had thereafter placed his two children with a friend and had departed to Kuwait for employment. During his stint in Kuwait, he had commenced an extramarital affair with a married woman from Wadduwa.

The man had later attempted to provide ownership of a 12 perch land owned by him to his girlfriend and elder son. He had left for Kuwait again after leaving his children under her custody.

However, upon his return, the man found that the woman had married an Army Officer and his eldest son had left the house for Wadduwa.

Investigations revealed that the Army officer and the woman had together murdered the man at his residence in Moratuwa and had disposed of his body.

The Army officer had later found the man’s eldest son and taken him to the Bolgoda lake in Piliyandala and stabbed him to death and later disposed of his body too.

The suspect had carried out the murder to take ownership of the land owned by the victim and his son, which was promised to the woman.

Using the National Identity Cards of the victims and making a relative pose as the deceased son of the victim, the Army officer had legally taken possession of the land at the time.

The suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged by the second son of the victim in February 2022. (NewsWire)
