The Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the eChannelling platform for its Consular Affairs Division yesterday.

Foreign Minister Ali Sabry said those who require to visit the Consular Affairs Division can now pre-book their appointments.

This will help reduce congestion and expedite operations at the Consular Affairs Division, he said.

Stating that there had been an upsurge in foreign employment and demand for migrant workers from Sri Lanka, the minister said it has resulted in the requests for services from the Ministry doubling and long queues being reported at the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The public has been inconvenienced as a result of this, and the ministry set out to offer a better service to the people.

Thus, in partnership with SLT and eChannelling, the Foreign Ministry launched appointment scheduling yesterday, he explained.

Minister Ali Sabry expressed hope that this new service will result in queues being eliminated and save the time and effort of the persons obtaining services.

He added that this is the beginning of a Programme that will result in the transformation of Sri Lankan Consular Services of missions across the world. (NewsWire)
