A suspect wanted over a murder during a handbag robbery in Gampaha has been killed after being shot by the Police this morning.
A 30-year-old man died after being stabbed with a knife during the robbery in the Akarawita area in Gampaha last week.
He was stabbed by the suspect while attempting to capture a female suspect who had attempted to steal the handbags of two women who had been walking along the road.
The two suspects had escaped after stabbing the victim and another individual, and the victim succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
The Police had attempted to arrest the key suspect who was wanted over the stabbing of the victim, today.
However, as the suspect had attempted to attack the Police with a sharp weapon the Police opened fire at him, killing him.
The incident had taken place in the Kotugoda area in Gampaha today. (NewsWire)
