The price of diesel was not reduced during the last price revision as only a one rupee profit had been reported during importation, Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said today.
Speaking in Parliament, he said that as it was not a great margin, the price of diesel could not be reduced.
Stating that earlier a loss of Rs. 30 was being reported for diesel, Minister Wijesekera said only a profit of Rs. 1 is being reported even after the price revision.
The minister pointed out a price reduction at this stage will result in insufficient money to purchase necessary fuel in the near future.
He further said that they were able to reduce the price of petrol as a profit of nearly Rs. 70 was reported during importation.
Stating that there is a drop in global crude prices, Minister Wijesekera said that there is a possibility for a further price revision in the next two weeks. (NewsWire)
