The government is considering introducing a QR Code system to streamline the distribution of Samurdhi allowances and other welfare measures.
The Ministry of Finance revealed that apart from Samurdhi beneficiaries, the system will also include those in need of support from the government.
As such, the system will include elderly people, physically challenged people, and people suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease, who are entitled to receive welfare benefit payments from the government.
It will also link families, which are on the waiting list to receive welfare benefit payments, and other families, which require government financial support due to the current economic crisis.
The Finance Ministry said the aim of digitizing the system is to help identify those who most need those welfare measures and to prevent misuse. (NewsWire)
