President Ranil Wickremesinghe today refuted reports claiming that he had dined with former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran in Singapore en route to his recent visit to Japan.

Opposition MP S. M. Marikkar told Parliament today that the President had met the former Central Bank Governor, who is wanted over Sri Lanka’s Central Bank bond scam, during his stopover at Singapore.

He had made the allegation by citing news reports that had claimed that the President had dined with Arjuna Mahendran in Singapore.

Responding to the allegation, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he had consumed breakfast with Singapore’s Government officials, while he had his lunch on board the Singapore Airlines in which he was travelling to Japan.

Stating that he can provide evidence of his lunch arrangement, the President said it was regrettable that MP Marikkar was raising such allegations.

The President further said that MP Marikkar is now attempting to walk the path paved by former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra for anti-government protests.

Responding to the President, the MP said he will never follow in the footsteps of Hirunika Premachandra.

“If you’re not going to join Hirunika, then it is best that you join me and continue the journey,” the President retorted. (NewsWire)
