Colombo hotel purchased with drug trafficking money confiscated

A hotel worth more than Rs.150 million located at Ramakrishna Road, Wellawatte has been confiscated by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division for being operated with money earned through drug trafficking.

According to the Daily News, the hotel was found to be bought by Shiran Basik, a leading drug smuggler who is said to be operating drug trafficking in Sri Lanka from Dubai.

The Illegal Assets Investigation Division revealed that the hotel is currently being run by Shiran Basik’s son who is a resident of Boralesgamuwa.

The Division further said preliminary investigations are underway into hotels bought by Shiran Basik, as information has been received about several hotels bought by him using money earned via drug trafficking. (NewsWire)
