Sri Lankan journalist Tharindu Jayawardhana yesterday (11) accused the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Fort Police Station of threatening him, while he attempted to file a complaint against the actions of two Police officers during a recent peaceful protest.

The journalist told the media that he along with a lawyer had visited the Fort Police Station to file a complaint against two senior Police officers pertaining to the peaceful demonstration that was held in Colombo on Monday (10).

He said the OIC had refused to accept the complaint on the basis that one Police officer named in the matter is attached to the Fort Police Station.

“The OIC thereafter proceeded to confiscate the mobile phone in my hand by manhandling me. As I refused to hand over the mobile phone he sent me out of his room and dealt with only the lawyer,” the journalist revealed.

Stating that if a complaint by a journalist is rejected by the Police, Jayawardhana questioned the plight of ordinary citizens, when dealing with the Police.
