Dengue on the rise : 36 PHI divisions identified as hotspots

An increase in the number of dengue patients in Sri Lanka over the last year has been reported with the National Dengue Control Unit revealing that 1,152 patients were recorded last week. 

Authorities have also identified 36 Public Health Inspector Administrative Divisions as high-risk areas due to the surge in the spread of dengue. 

59,317 dengue patients have been reported so far this year, an increase in comparison to the 19,912 patients reported during the same period last year.

The National Dengue Control Unit said the highest number of dengue patients have been detected in the Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara districts.

An increase in dengue patients has been observed in the Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Kegalle, Puttalam, and Kurunegala districts in comparison to 2021. (NewsWire)
