Man seriously injured after being allegedly hit by State Minister’s vehicle

An individual has been seriously injured after being allegedly knocked down by State Minister Sanath Nishantha’s vehicle in Puttalam on Saturday (15).

According to the Daily News, the State Minister’s vehicle is reported to have crashed into the victim while he was riding a bicycle on the Puttalam – Kurunegala road.

The victim, who is a 46-year-old resident of Mullipuram, Puttalam, was initially admitted to the Puttalam Hospital but was later transferred to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital as his health condition had deteriorated.

The driver of the State Minister’s vehicle has been arrested, while the vehicle has been taken into Police custody. The Puttalam Police is conducting further investigations into the accident. 

In an unrelated matter, State Minister Sanath Nishantha surrendered to court last week following an arrest order issued for contempt of court.

He was released after the court issues a stern warning ordering him to appear before the court as per the summons issued related to the case filed on contempt of court charges. (NewsWire)
