How Sri Lanka can still qualify even with another defeat ?

After a shocking setback in their ICC T20 World Cup campaign with the loss to Namibia on Sunday, Sri Lanka came back strong with a massive win against the UAE on Tuesday to end up in a position where they simply need to beat the Netherlands tomorrow (20) to qualify for the Super 12s stage of the tournament.

If Sri Lanka beat Netherlands, they do not have to rely on the result of the other remaining match of Group A between Namibia and the UAE, which will also be played later tomorrow.

If Sri Lanka lose to Netherlands, they will have to rely on the UAE to beat Namibia heavily. UAE must beat Namibia by a margin of 28 runs + the margin of defeat for Sri Lanka against Netherlands, for Sri Lanka to qualify ahead of Namibia in NRR.

In this scenario, Netherlands will have three wins and all the other teams including Sri Lanka will have one win. Sri Lanka can qualify if their net run rate is above Namibia.

If both tomorrow’s Group A matches get washed out, Sri Lanka will not make it to the Super 12s. In that case, Netherlands ( who got more points) and Namibia ( Who have a superior NRR) will go through from Group A. (NewsWire)
