Sri Lanka names replacement for injured Dushmanatha Chameera

Sri Lanka fast bowler Kasun Rajitha will replace the injured Dushmantha Chameera at the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Secretary Mohan de Silva told NewsWire that Kasun Rajitha has been included in the national squad subject to the approval of the Sports Ministry and ICC Technical Committee

Mohan de Silva added that Kasun Rajitha will leave for Australia soon to join the national team.

He further said that fast bowler Asitha Fernando is also likely to join the Sri Lankan squad as a standby player due to the injury concerns of several other team members.

The announcements come after it was reported earlier today that Sri Lankan fast bowler Dushmanatha Chameera was ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a serious injury.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Medical Committee Senior Prof Arjuna de Silva confirmed to NewsWire that Dushmanatha will be out of the T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka will next take on the Netherlands tomorrow, 20th October 2022, in Geelong. (NewsWire)
