Sri Lankan refugees deported from French Reunion Islands & Japan

Two Sri Lankans who had sought refuge on the French Reunion Islands, and another who has been living in Japan illegally had been deported to Sri Lanka on Tuesday (25).

According to the Daily News, two Sri Lankans who were preparing to illegally enter France by reaching the Reunion Island by boat have been deported to Sri Lanka on Tuesday (25).

A 21-year-old youth from Palugaswewa, Arachchikattuwa, and a 49-year-old female from Sinnakkaru, Bangadeniya have been thus deported. 

It is reported that they had gone to France by boat from Chilaw at the end of 2018 and had remained there until recently citing various reasons.

Meanwhile, a person who had illegally entered Japan and lived there for 11 years was also deported to Sri Lanka, on Tuesday (25).

The 37-year-old, who had secretly gone to Japan in 2011, has been identified as a resident of Nochchiyagama, Udunuwara Colony. 

The three persons were taken into custody by officials of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) upon their arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. (NewsWire)
