Court issues suspended prison term for former UNP MP

The prison term issued to former UNP Puttalam District MP Shantha Abeysekara has been suspended for five years by Chilaw Magistrate and District Judge D.L.L. Buddhadasa.

According to Lankadeepa, Shantha Abeysekara was arrested and convicted of damaging public property through illegal assembly and was sentenced to 01 years of rigorous imprisonment. 

He was charged with three offences of illegal assembly, assault, and damage to public property under a case filed at the Chilaw Magistrate’s Court in 2013.

Taking up for hearing the case, Chilaw Magistrate and District Judge D.L.L. Buddhadasa has suspended the one-year prison term for five years.

He has also imposed a fine of Rs. 103,000 on the UNP’s former Puttalam District MP. (NewsWire)
