Former Parliamentarian and Sri Lankan actor Ranjan Ramanayake has been prevented from travelling overseas.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya politician was turned away from the Bandaranaike International Airport by Immigration and Emigration Department officials on Friday (28) morning.
Immigration and Emigration officials had prevented him from travelling overseas based on an existing court order banning overseas travel.
Speaking to NewsWire, Ranjan Ramanayake said that the court had imposed a travel ban on him pertaining to a case filed over the distribution of rice during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stating that the case had concluded and the travel ban had been lifted, Ramanayake said that the Immigration and Emigration officials had not been informed in this regard.
The former MP said that he had attempted to travel to the US for an event, adding that action will be taken to resolve the matter related to the travel ban. (NewsWire)
