Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) MP Harsha de Silva has raised questions on the Staff- Level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) allegedly being shared with other official committees ahead of it being submitted to the COPF Committee.

In a Twitter message, the opposition MP questioned if the IMF Staff-Level Agreement had been shared with committees appointed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He warned that if the allegations in this regard are true, then it is a serious breach.

Responding to his queries, State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said the actions that need to be completed before any formal approval by the IMF Executive Board are being discussed with government authorities.

He further said that the IMF “Staff Level Agreement” is not a document but an understanding between the Government of Sri Lanka and the IMF staff.

State Minister Semasinghe further explained that this does not mean that a “Staff Level Agreement” is given out to various individuals as alleged.

He added that the IMF press release with elements of this understanding is already in the public domain. (NewsWire)
