CID to probe Youth Services Council document fraud

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the misuse of the Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry Secretary’s letterhead, signature, and official seal to fill vacancies at the National Youth Services Council.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe was informed by the CID yesterday (31) that letters bearing the Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry Secretary’s letterhead and official seal had been submitted to the Council’s Chairman to fill 07 vacancies.

According to Lankadeepa, the CID had informed that the probe had been launched on the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) based on a complaint filed by the former Secretary to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs Anuradha Wijekoone.

The CID revealed in court that the fake letter containing the names of 07 candidates to fill the vacancies at the National Youth Services Council, bearing Wijekoone’s signature and official ministry seal had been issued on 06th December 2021. (NewsWire)
