Navy nets 300Kgs of heroin & 10 suspects in joint operation

A total of 300 parcels of heroin have been seized off the coast of Hambantota today (07), Sri Lanka Navy Spokesman Captain Indika de Silva said. 

Speaking to NewsWire, he said that the narcotics were seized during a special operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police Narcotics Bureau early this morning.

He said that they suspect each parcel contains around 1kg of heroin, amounting to around 300 kg in total.

Six suspects had been arrested onboard a fishing trawler with the stock of heroin by the Navy and Police Narcotics Bureau personnel.

Four other suspects had been arrested in a small dinghy on shore by the Police Special Task Force while attempting to transfer the narcotics, he said.

Captain Indika de Silva further said that the boats have been transported to the Galle Harbour and further investigations are underway. (NewsWire)
