4, 17 & 19 year olds die in separate accidents

Two teenagers and a 04-year-old child have died in separate motor accidents reported within the last 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today (08).

The Police said a 04-year-old child had died after a three-wheeler had met with an accident near Gas Handhiya in the Galgamuwa Police Division on the Kurunegala- Anuradhapura main road last evening (07) due to the driver being unable to control its speed. 

The driver of the three-wheeler, two women, 2 female children, and two male children who had been travelling in the vehicle had been injured in the accident and had been admitted to the Galgamuwa Hospital.

A 04-year-old male child had succumbed to injuries, while the three-wheeler driver and passengers are receiving treatment at the Galgamuwa and Anuradhapura Hospitals. The Galgamuwa Police is conducting further investigations. 

In a separate incident, a 17-year-old has died in an accident reported near Jayamawatha on the Makola- Kiribathgoda main road last morning.

The Police said the accident had occurred after a bus plying from Kiribathgoda to Makola had attempted to overtake another bus travelling in the same direction and had hit a motorcycle that was plying ahead, also in the same direction.

The motorcyclist, a resident of Dhelgoda, had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the hospital. The driver of the bus has been arrested in connection to the accident, while the Kiribathgoda Police is conducting investigations. 

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old boy has died after the motorcycle he was travelling on crashed into a wall due to being unable to control its speed.

The Police said the accident had occurred at the Walauwa crossroad in the Homagama Police Division last afternoon. The injured motorcyclist had died after being admitted to the Homagama Hospital.

The victim has been identified as a resident of Homagama. The Homagama Police is conducting further investigations into the accident. (NewsWire)
