The government’s expense has increased to Rs. 7.9 trillion in the Budget 2023 from the Rs. 6.2 trillion that was allocated in 2022, Opposition MP Dr. Harsha de Silva said on Tuesday (08).

Speaking in Parliament today, MP Harsha de Silva pointed out that this was an increase of nearly Rs. 1657 billion.

“The appreciation bill was approved by the Working Committee on Finance. Is this government policy? As the state expenditure has increased significantly,” he questioned.

MP de Silva further said that it is difficult to predict if the estimated government expense includes government revenue.

“We expect the government to explain the ways in which it expects to obtain income during its Budget presentation,” he added. (NewsWire)
