President calls for talks on impact of melting Himalayan glaciers

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for a meeting of South Asian nations to discuss the losses and damages caused by the melting of the glaciers in the Himalayas, it has been reported.

The President made the appeal during a breakfast meeting hosted by the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz, and the President of the Republic of Ghana, Akufo-Addo.

According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27 in Egypt.

The President has thus far met United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and Environment and Head of the Korean delegation Na Kyung- Won, newly-appointed British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and President of Slovenia Borut Pahor. (NewsWire)
