November 10, 2022 at 12:22 PM

Absentee armed forces personnel who are presently abroad have been urged to receive a legal discharge from their respective services under the recently declared General Amnesty period.

The Ministry of Defence said absentee armed forces personnel who are presently abroad can receive a legal discharge from their respective services without reporting to the Unit.

The General Amnesty period declared for this purpose is in force from 15th November 2022 until 31st December 2022.

The Ministry said that thereby, the armed forces personnel who have been absent without leave (AWOL) on or before 25th October 2022 will be able to receive their discharge from military services, and if any amount is due, it should be settled prior to discharge.

Further, these persons shall not have pending investigations for disciplinary breaches except for their absence without leave, it added.

The Defence Ministry also said that it should be confirmed by the Department of Immigration and Emigration that these persons have not traveled abroad by illegal means or have not fraudulently prepared passports and other documents to travel abroad. (NewsWire)
