November 10, 2022 at 9:06 AM

The Department of Meteorology says that the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the South-east of Sri Lanka has intensified into a low-pressure area and is likely to develop further during the next 24 hours.

The department said that it is likely to move northwestwards toward the Northern coast of Sri Lanka.

Thereby, the Naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Mannar via Trincomalee and Kankasanturai.

Meanwhile, rainy conditions over most parts of the Island are expected to enhance due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the South-east of Sri Lanka

The Met Department said cloudy skies can be expected in the Northern, North-Central, and Eastern provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Eastern, Uva, Northern, and North-Central provinces and in the Matale district. Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere during the afternoon or night.

Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Northern, North-Central Eastern, Sabaragamuwa, and Southern provinces.

The public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (NewsWire)
