How many Govt owned institutions in the country? Numbers revealed

The list of institutions under the purview of the government has been presented to the Parliament for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of Finance said that the list was presented to Parliament by State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya today (17).

The list of institutions under the purview of the government has been presented to Parliament as per the promise of President Ranil Wickremesinghe while presenting the budget 2023 on Monday (14).

The list reveals there are 1283 institutions under the purview of the government, out of which 29 are ministries and 99 are government departments.

The Ministry of Finance further revealed there are 25 District Secretariats, 09 Provincial Councils, 341 Divisional Secretariat Offices, and 341 Local Government Bodies. 

The list further stated there are 420 State entities, including state-owned enterprises. (NewsWire)
