Chairman of Sri Lanka’s National Sports Council Arjuna Ranatunga has been ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 25 million to former Sri Lanka Cricket president Thilanga Sumathipala.
Mountlavinia court issued the order after taking up for consideration the case filed by former MP Sumathipala accusing former Cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga of making defamatory statements pertaining to him to the media in 2003.
Sumathipala had filed a complaint seeking compensation from Arjuna Ranatunga for his statement claiming that the former SLC President was not a suitable individual for any state posts, including as the head of Sri Lanka Telecom.
Thilanga Sumathipala had filed a case at the court charging that the statements had caused harm to his reputation. (NewsWire)
