A 28-year-old man has been arrested on charges of having allegedly raped his mother-in-law in the Mabima area in Sapugaskanda.
The Police said the incident had occurred on Sunday (20) when the suspect’s wife had left to attend a musical show at night.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect’s in-laws had visited them from Galnewa the previous day.
However, the father-in-law had left for Galnewa and the mother-in-law stayed back with her daughter.
After his wife had left for the musical show, the suspect is reported to have raped his 54-year-old mother-in-law at home.
The suspect was immediately arrested after the incident and was produced before the Mahara Magistrate’s Court.
The Police said the mother-in-law has been admitted to Ragama General Hospital for a medical examination. (NewsWire)
