A 50-year-old woman has been killed after being stabbed by her son-in-law in the Helagama area in Theripeha in the Central Province last afternoon.

The Police said the victim’s daughter had been residing with her for several years due to a dispute with her husband.

The two women had visited the Helagama Grama Niladhari’s Office to obtain the government-provided free dry ration packs, but as the registration was under the suspect’s name, an argument had ensued between the three parties.

As the argument had escalated due to the mother-daughter duo attempting to obtain the dry ration packs, the suspect had stabbed both with a knife and fled the area.

The two injured women had been admitted to the Theripeha Hospital and were later transferred to the Rikiligaskada Hospital, during which the mother succumbed to her injuries.

The 27-year-old suspect has been arrested and is set to be produced before the Walapane Magistrate’s Court today. (NewsWire)
