The Health Ministry will blacklist doctors who travel overseas without prior permission, Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella said on Tuesday (29).

Speaking in Parliament, he said that in the event a doctor leaves overseas without proper permission, a notice will be issued declaring that the said doctor has vacated his/ her post.

There is a possibility to terminate the registration with the Sri Lanka Medical Council of such doctors, he warned.

Commenting on the recruitment of health staff, the minister said there was a blanket rule by the Treasury preventing recruitments for any sector at present.

Minister Rambukwella said he hopes there will be an exception for the health sector and the Treasury will permit the ministry to recruit at least the bare minimum. (NewsWire)
