A tuition teacher has been arrested on charges of having sexually molested a 15-year-old female student from the Pannala area.
The suspect has been remanded until 15th December after being produced before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect is a 24-year-old tuition master conducting lessons for the science subject in several areas, including Dankotuwa, Wennapuwa, and Makumbura.
The Pannala Police informed the court that the suspect had been arrested after birth control pills were found in the possession of the victim, who is a grade 10 student.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect had obtained the victim’s number via the WhatsApp group created for tuition class students, and had allured the child.
The suspect was arrested while conducting classes at a tuition centre in Pannipitiya.
His lawyer had informed the court that the suspect and victim had been involved in a romantic affair and therefore to grant bail.
However, the court remanded the suspect and informed the Police to conduct an investigation into other female students in the class and present facts to the court on the findings. (NewsWire)
