A 41-year-old man who is reportedly the main broker in the human organ racket uncovered recently at a private hospital in Rajaagirya has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD).

The Police said that the suspect, who is a resident of  Kajimawatte, Colombo 15, had been arrested after reporting to the CCD last evening (05).

The CCD launched investigations into the human organ racket after 04 persons and a woman who had fallen victim to the racket had filed complaints at the Borella Police station.

It was uncovered that the racket had targeted individuals from poverty-stricken families, mainly to obtain kidneys, and had not settled the agreed payment following the operations.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect had acted as a broker between the patients and the third party receiving the organ, and had obtained a commission from the receiver, while he had also defrauded a sum from the settlement offered to the patients.

The Police said the suspect will be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court today. The CCD is continuing investigations into the racket after presenting facts to the court. (NewsWire)
