Bambalapitiya cash theft : Victims apprehend suspect

A 41-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to steal nearly Rs. 2.7 million in cash from two individuals in a car near Duplication Road in Bambalapitiya yesterday (07). 

The Police said that two suspects on a motorcycle had stopped a car travelling on Duplication Road last afternoon and had attempted to inspect the car claiming that they were Police Special Task Force personnel.

During the inspection, the suspects had taken off with the Rs. 2.7 million in cash that was in the possession of the owner of the car and his passenger. 

The owner of the car and the passenger had managed to capture one suspect on De Fonseka Road, in Bambalapitiya along with his motorcycle and had handed him over to the Bambalapitiya Police station.

The apprehended suspect has been identified as a 41-year-old resident of Wellawatte.

The Police said the suspect will be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court today.

The Bambalapitiya Police has commenced investigations to arrest the other suspect involved in the robbery. (NewsWire)
