A protest has been launched outside the Chinese Embassy in Colombo against a recent statement made by Batticaloa District MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam in Parliament.

Speaking in Parliament this week, MP Rasamanickam questioned the right of the Chinese Embassy to comment via Twitter posts on his statements made in the Parliament of Sri Lanka, stating it was a matter of Sri Lanka’s sovereignty.

MP Shanakiyan further said that he will spearhead a “GoHomeChina” campaign if China does not work to support Sri Lanka in its debt restructuring, adding that this delay has stalled the IMF negotiations.

However, a protest has been launched today showing support for the Chinese Embassy, with many holding placards condemning MP Rasamanickam’s statement.

Responding to the protest, MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam stated, “Yes, I’m so excited as it is the first time someone is protesting against me, that too in Colombo outside the Embassy of one of the most powerful countries.” (NewsWire)
