Cabinet approval for proposal to strengthen sexual harassment-related laws

The Cabinet has granted approval to strengthen the existing legal provisions prohibiting sexual assault, sexual harassment, and sexual bribery, and to include severe punishment for those found guilty of such criminal acts.

The government states that sexual harassment is a violation of fundamental human rights and is mentioned in Section 345 of the Penal Code, but it is observed that this issue continues to prevail even though there are legal provisions to set the punishment for those crimes.

Thereby, a proposal has been presented by the Minister of Justice to instruct the legal draftsman to prepare a bill to include articles in the Penal Code criminalizing sexual assault and all forms of sexual harassment.

The proposal also calls for introducing a new section to give severe punishment for those committing such offences and to also make sexual bribery an offence.

The said proposal has received approval from the Cabinet of Ministers. (NewsWire)
