Sri Lanka’s ruling party, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has hinted at a possible political alliance with President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s United National Party (UNP).

Speaking to the media on Monday (12), SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said that the SLPP was willing to support any political party with policies focused on the country’s future and the younger generation.

Stating that political parties can only survive by changing their policies to suit the needs of the country and its citizens, Kariyawasam said that this has been proven by the actions of the oldest leftist political parties in the country.

Sagara Kariyawasam pointed out that UNP’s Ranil Wickremesinghe has been appointed as the President of Sri Lanka by the SLPP, which has created a bond between the two parties.

He, however, emphasized that an alliance with a suitable party will be carried out without compromising the policies of both parties. (NewsWire)
