Sri Lanka held another round of discussion with its bilateral creditors on Thursday (15), State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe said.

In a Twitter message, he extended his gratitude to the bilateral creditors who participated in the 3rd meeting of officials on Sri Lanka’s debt treatment process.

State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said that Sri Lanka appreciates the progressive and constructive engagements.

“Further, we wish to reiterate that we will maintain an equal, comparable and transparent debt treatment policy,” he assured.

Sri Lanka is in the midst of debt restructuring in a bid to receive financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to mitigate its economic crisis.

Two rounds of talks have already been held with its international creditors, with Sri Lanka assuring that it remains fully committed to advancing engagements with all its creditors in an equitable and transparent way.

The talks come after Sri Lanka reached a Staff-Level Agreement with the IMF on a four-year program supported by the Extended Fund Facility on 1st September 2022.

The program, amounting to USD 2.9 billion, is expected to restore macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability while protecting the vulnerable and safeguarding Sri Lanka’s financial system, while it remains subject to IMF Executive Board approval. (NewsWire)
