Law enforcement authorities have been instructed to take maximum measures in the fight against crimes, including murders and drug peddling.

The Ministry of Public Security said in a statement that the directive was issued by Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles.

The Public Security Minister advised officials from the law enforcement authorities including the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other high-ranking  Police officials during a meeting convened today.

The directive comes in light of the death of the Director of a leading insurance company, Dinesh Schaffter yesterday.

Schaffter was found seriously injured with his hands bound inside his car at the Borella Cemetery last evening. He died due to a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

During the meeting today, Minister Tiran Alles inquired about the ongoing investigations into Schaffter’s death and investigations into other drug-related crimes in the country. (NewsWire)
