A 3-month-old infant from the Angoda, Ambatale area in Mulleriyawa Police Division has burned to death following an accident at her home on Friday (16) evening.
Police say that the incident has taken place when only the said infant and her 5-year-old sister were at home when their mother had gone out of the house to a nearby house.
The mother had connected the water heater and left home, while the police say that electricity to the house has been taken in an illegal manner from a nearby house as the connection to the house has been barred due to non payment.
The water heater has caught fire and spread to the bed where the infant was sleeping. By the time the mother has returned to the house after being informed by the elder child that a fire that a fire had taken place in the house, the 3-month-old infant has burned to death on the spot, the police further said.
