The Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment is working to digitalize the labour migration process in Sri Lanka, subject Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said.

The minister said the government is working towards moving the country to a digital economic era.

Thereby, digitalizing the labour migration process will enable Sri Lanka to send skilled workers in a professional manner for overseas employment, he said.

Minister Manusha Nanayakkara further said the digitalized labour migration process will help curb illegal activities related to foreign employment, such as employment rackets and forged passports.

It will also ensure the safety of Sri Lankan migrant workers being sent overseas for employment, he added.

The Foreign Employment Minister also said that following the introduction of a single digital platform all paperwork will be ceased.

He added that the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) will also be able to charge a fixed rate for migrants making the process transparent.

The Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara made these remarks while addressing an event organized to commemorate “International Migrants Day”. (NewsWire)
