State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that there will be further relaxation of import restrictions in the upcoming year.
The State Minister has said that even though 1465 types of goods were restricted to import as a temporary relief to the forex crisis, already 795 type of goods have been removed from the restrictions.
He further said that out of the 670 types of goods currently placed in the import restrictions, there are many that can be produced locally.
Therefore, the State Minister has said that a decision has to be taken whether to continue importation of goods that can be locally manufactured or permanently restrict them and encourage local production. (NewsWire)
