Police uncover details of Taxi Driver murder

Three suspects who had brutally assaulted and murdered the driver of a car and stolen his vehicle have been arrested in the Ambalanthota area.

The Police said the suspect aged between 31 and 36 years are residents of Ambalanthota and Hungama and had been arrested yesterday and handed over to the Ingiriya Police station.

The suspects are reported to have hired a car to travel from Ratmalana and had brutally assaulted the driver, binding his hands, legs, and mouth, and later strangling him.

They had discarded his body in an abandoned area in the Thambapana area in Ingiriya following the assault and murder on 14th December 2022 and had fled with the victim’s car and two mobile phones.

The Police said investigating officers have found the victim’s car and his two mobile phones, a sim card used by the suspects, and three other mobile phones in their possession.

One of the three suspects is an individual who had bought the two mobile phones of the victim that had been pawned by the other suspects.

The suspects will be produced before the Horana Magistrate’s Court today, while the Ingiriya Police is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
