President Ranil Wickremesinghe has extended his condolences to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the passing of the latter’s mother, Heeraben Modi.
Indian media reported that Heeraben Modi died at the age of 99, adding that she had been admitted to a hospital in the western state of Gujarat, where she lived after her health deteriorated.
“A glorious century rests at the feet of God,” Mr Modi tweeted. He had flown from Delhi to visit her at the hospital on Wednesday evening.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in a message today, expressed his condolences over Heeraben Modi’s demise.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of the beloved mother of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. My heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Modi and the family in this hour of grief,” he said.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa also expressed his condolences to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Deeply saddened to hear of the demise of Smt. Heeraben Modi. My heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister @narendramodi ji on the loss of his beloved mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with the PM and his family in this hour of grief,” Mahinda Rajapaksa said in a message on Twitter. (NewsWire)
