President Ranil Wickremesinghe was brought in as a tool to destroy the ‘Aragalaya’ people’s movement, State Minister Sanath Nishamtha claimed in a controversial interview with local artist Iraj Weerarathne.
During the interview, Nishantha, who is under investigation for leading a mob to assault unarmed protestors at the ‘GotaGoHome’ site on Galle Face Green, stated replying to a question, that Wickremesinghe was appointed President as a response to the public protest movement ‘Aragalaya’.
“We brought him for a specific reason. We appointed Ranil as President to end the ‘Aragalaya’ people’s movement. It is going well. He was appointed to attack the ‘Aragalaya’,” Sanath Nishantha said.
When inquired how they appointed Ranil Wickremesinghe after accusing him of various corruption, the State Minister compared Wickremesinghe to a weapon kept with oneself for self-defence.
“A person will be in possession of an explosive or firearm not to caress it but to use it in the case of an emergency. That was what we did with Ranil Wickremesinghe. He was used as a tool to address the ‘Aragalaya’,” he explained. (NewsWire)
