A pregnant woman who had pawned a gold necklace, borrowed from another woman, for her confinement has been granted bail.
The woman was arrested for having pawned the necklace which she had borrowed from her neighbour under the guise of attending a wedding.
Investigations have revealed that she had pawned the gold necklace in order to buy necessary items for her childbirth.
The pregnant woman who was arrested had gone into labour and was admitted to the Castle Hospital Colombo where she gave birth.
Colombo Acting Magistrate Sampath Jayawardena visited the woman in the hospital and ordered her to be released on a bail of 10,000 rupees. (NewsWire)
