Unusual punishment for Politician for being seated with legs crossed in court

The Chairman of the Welikanda Pradeshiya Sabha Nimal Adhikari was placed in jail for a few hours for being seated with his legs crossed in a disrespectful manner during a court proceeding.

According to Lankadeepa, Polonnaruwa Magistrate placed Nimal Adhikari inside a cell at the court premises for disrespecting the court.

Adhikari had appeared in court when a case pertaining to the arrest of his Pradeshiya Sabha’s electrician and two others was taken up for hearing.

The three suspects were arrested during a raid conducted by Ceylon Electricity Board officials for having illegally drawn electricity for an event in Ruhunuketha and were produced before the Polonnaruwa Magistrate’s Court.

Nimal Adhikari had attended the hearing and had behaved in a disrespectful manner earning him a three-hour jail time, after which he was admonished by the justice and released. (NewsWire)
