A vessel carrying a consignment of coal has reached Puttalam, the Chairman of the Ceylon Coal Company announced today.

According to the Chairman of the Ceylon Coal Company, the consignment consists of 60,000 Metric Tonnes of coal.

Meanwhile, the Ceylon Electricity Board stated that this is the 6th shipment of coal to arrive in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is in the midst of a power crisis due to the lack of coal to generate the necessary electricity.

Power cuts of over 2 hours are enforced on a daily basis at present.

In December 2022, CEB Trade Unions repeatedly warned that the lack of coal may result in over 10- 13 hour power cuts in 2023. (NewsWire)
